TIP #2
*Self Launch*

When you set up your kite on the field and stake the handles to the ground there is a definite HAZARD. If the kite is not leaned back enough it could self launch and wind up doing damage not only to your kite but to other people on the field.

To set up your kite for a self launch, begin by staking your handle to the ground with a kite stake or a screwdriver, be sure to angle the stake away from the kite to make sure it does not pull out. Then walk your line and kite downwind from the staked handles and attach the lines to the kite, once this is done, be sure to lean the kite back away from the handles with the lines tight. Be sure that the kite is leaning back far enough not to launch by itself (approximately a 45 degree angle minimum).

All experienced fliers should be sure to caution new fliers of this hazard. If too many accidents happen on our favorite flying fields the city could post a restriction and then we would all lose.
